A coalition of medical professionals and concerned stakeholders at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, has issued a formal appeal to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for an urgent and independent investigation into what they describe as “worsening conditions and entrenched corruption” under the leadership of Medical Director Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye.
The statement further accuses Dr. Owoeye of overseeing a tenure marked by “incompetent leadership and unprecedented corruption,” including the depletion of drug revolving funds, questionable public-private partnerships, and delays in critical infrastructure projects such as the outpatient clinic complex.
Despite repeated reports to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, staff claim that no meaningful action has been taken. They are now appealing directly to the Presidency for intervention, citing the urgent need to restore dignity, safety, and functionality to one of Nigeria’s foremost mental health institutions.
