President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, to commence a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Latin America’s largest economy. The visit marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria-Brazil relations, with a focus on strategic cooperation across agriculture, aviation, energy, security, and cultural exchange.

Touching down at Brasília International Airport aboard the presidential aircraft “Eagle One” at approximately 12:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. Nigerian time), President Tinubu was warmly received by senior Brazilian officials including Ambassador Carlos José Moreno Garcete and Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Carlos Duarte. Nigerian dignitaries present included Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, and Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.

The visit will feature high-level meetings with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Palácio da Alvorada, where both leaders will engage in private discussions followed by expanded bilateral talks. A major highlight will be the signing of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), paving the way for direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil.

President Tinubu is also scheduled to participate in the Nigeria–Brazil Business Forum, bringing together top business leaders from both nations to explore investment opportunities in agribusiness, renewable energy, and digital innovation. The engagements are expected to activate multi-billion-dollar deals, including the advancement of the $1.1 billion Green Imperative agricultural mechanisation project.

“This visit reflects a renewed and focused diplomatic strategy to diversify Nigeria’s partnerships and deepen ties with key members of the BRICS bloc,” said Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications.
