Amid rising speculation over recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Africa’s political landscape, Nigerian Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has firmly stated that the United States is not targeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The clarification comes in response to concerns that Trump’s rhetoric could signal a shift in U.S. foreign policy toward Nigeria.

Speaking to members of the Senate Press Corps at the National Assembly, Senator Kalu emphasized that “there is no credible evidence or indication that the U.S. government is working against President Tinubu or his administration.” He described the rumors as politically motivated distractions aimed at destabilizing Nigeria’s progress under the current leadership.

Kalu, a former Chief Whip of the 9th Senate and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission, underscored the strength of Nigeria’s diplomatic ties with the United States. “Nigeria and the U.S. have enjoyed decades of strategic partnership. We must not allow political mischief to undermine that relationship,” he said.

He also addressed the broader issue of insurgency and insecurity in Nigeria, attributing some of the unrest to internal political sabotage rather than foreign interference. “There are forces within who benefit from chaos. We must be vigilant and united in defending our democracy,” Kalu warned.

In a show of confidence, Kalu reiterated his belief that President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) remain politically dominant heading into the 2027 elections. “It’s Tinubu versus Tinubu. The President has no real opposition,” he declared, citing the APC’s deep grassroots support across the country.

The press release aims to reassure Nigerians and international observers that diplomatic relations remain stable and that the Tinubu administration continues to enjoy legitimacy and support both domestically and abroad.
