The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Thursday, December 25, 2025, Friday, December 26, 2025, and Thursday, January 1, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day, respectively.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. The holidays are intended to allow Nigerians to celebrate the festive season with their families and loved ones, reflect on the past year, and usher in the new one with hope and renewed vigor.
In a statement released today, the Minister emphasized the significance of these celebrations in promoting unity, peace, and national harmony. "Christmas and New Year are times of joy, reflection, and gratitude. The Federal Government encourages all Nigerians to observe these holidays responsibly, upholding the values of love, compassion, and togetherness that define our great nation," said Dr. Tunji-Ojo.
He further urged citizens to use this period to pray for the country's continued progress and to support ongoing efforts toward economic stability and security. The Minister also called on Nigerians to adhere to all safety guidelines, especially during travels and gatherings, to ensure a peaceful and incident-free celebration.
