The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for providing the leadership that ensured the peaceful, orderly, and successful conduct of the Saturday, February 21, 2026, FCT Area Council elections.

In a statement reflecting on the outcome of the polls, which saw strong performances by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Minister Wike described the results as a clear revelation to Nigerians about the true political landscape in the country.

"This election has been peaceful and a credit to the commitment of Mr. President to democratic principles and the rule of law," Wike stated. "I heartily congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and for creating an enabling environment that allowed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver credible elections."

The Minister particularly congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on their respective victories across the area councils. He emphasized that the poll results have exposed the genuine strengths of the parties and clarified the positions in Nigeria's political divide.

"Most especially, I congratulate the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for their victories," he said. "This election has indeed shown that Nigerians now know the ruling party and the real opposition party."

Wike further noted that the outcome has highlighted the hypocrisy of certain political figures who engage in superficial campaigns while lacking genuine grassroots support or commitment to national progress.

"The election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnut from roadside sellers for the purpose of campaign just to deceive Nigerians," the Minister added.

He praised the maturity of FCT residents, security agencies, and electoral officials for ensuring a violence-free process, despite challenges such as low voter turnout in some areas.

The Minister reiterated his dedication to supporting candidates and policies aligned with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said continues to deliver visible transformations in infrastructure, security, and governance across the FCT.

Minister Wike called on all political actors to accept the will of the people as expressed at the polls and to work collaboratively for the continued development of the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria as a whole.

The Federal Capital Territory remains committed to advancing good governance, inclusivity, and progress under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
