In a briefing with journalists on Saturday in Dutse, the Board's Director-General, Alhaji Ahmad Umar Labbo, confirmed the successful conclusion of the comprehensive health assessments, marking a key step forward in ensuring the well-being and readiness of Jigawa's contingent for the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.
“We are happy to announce that the Jigawa State Hajj Welfare Board has successfully concluded the medical screening of its intending pilgrims in preparation for the 2026 Hajj in Mecca,” Labbo stated. “All intending pilgrims have passed the mandatory medical tests, demonstrating their fitness to undertake this important religious journey.”
The medical screening process, which began in late January 2026, was a critical requirement aligned with guidelines from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and Saudi Arabian authorities.
It involved thorough health evaluations to confirm that pilgrims are physically capable of performing the rites of Hajj, which can be physically demanding due to heat, crowds, and extended periods of activity.
The successful clearance of all candidates reflects the state's commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of its pilgrims. Earlier in January, the Board inaugurated a specialized medical team to oversee screenings and provide ongoing support, including plans for specialized dietary arrangements for pilgrims with specific health needs during the pilgrimage.
With medical fitness now secured, the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board is intensifying other preparatory activities. These include orientation programs, logistical arrangements, and coordination with NAHCON to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience for participants.
The state government, under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, has demonstrated strong support for the exercise, including significant budgetary allocations such as the approval of ₦2.6 billion to facilitate hitch-free operations for the 2026 Hajj.
The Board expressed gratitude to the medical teams, state health authorities, and all stakeholders who contributed to the seamless screening process. Intending pilgrims are now urged to remain engaged with upcoming orientation sessions and other pre-departure requirements.
The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of welfare, safety, and spiritual guidance for all pilgrims as they prepare for this profound act of worship.
