In response to ongoing speculation about tensions between the Holy See and the United States, Pope Leo XIV today firmly dismissed rumors of a personal feud with President Donald Trump, emphasizing that his public appeals stem solely from the Gospel message of peace, not political opposition.

Speaking aboard the papal plane during his ongoing visit to Africa, the Holy Father addressed recent media reports and social media commentary surrounding differences in approach to the conflict involving Iran and broader global issues.

“I have no fear of the Trump administration, nor of speaking out loudly about the message of the Gospel,” Pope Leo stated. “We are not politicians. Our role is to promote peace, reconciliation, and dialogue among all peoples. The world needs to hear this message today more than ever.”

The Pontiff clarified that his calls for de-escalation, an “off-ramp” to violence, and a return to multilateral solutions are rooted in Christian teachings on the dignity of every human life and the rejection of war as a solution. He stressed that these positions are not directed against any individual leader but reflect the Church’s timeless mission as a peacemaker.

“Blessed are the peacemakers,” the Pope recalled. “I have no intention of engaging in debate or entering into political disputes. My focus remains on urging all world leaders without exception to prioritize dialogue, reduce suffering, and work toward lasting reconciliation.”

Pope Leo highlighted his recent visit to the Great Mosque of Algiers as a symbol of interfaith coexistence and unity across differences, noting that true peace requires respect among believers of all traditions.

The Vatican reiterated that the Holy See maintains open channels for constructive engagement with all governments, including the United States, on matters of shared concern such as humanitarian aid, migration, and global stability.

This statement comes amid heightened public discussion following President Trump’s criticism of the Pope’s stance on foreign policy and related issues. The Holy Father expressed hope that such exchanges would not distract from the urgent need for peace in conflict zones.

“Prayer and dialogue remain our path forward,” he concluded. “Let us all pray for peace in the Middle East and throughout the world.”

The Vatican Press Office confirmed that no further personal commentary on the matter is anticipated, as the Pope continues his pastoral journey focused on unity and the spiritual needs of the faithful.
