Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for the visible development projects and improved governance outcomes now unfolding across Nigeria.

Onanuga stated that the impact of the President’s bold economic reforms is being felt most strongly at the state and local government levels, where increased financial allocations have empowered subnational governments to deliver tangible infrastructure and social services.

“In every state I have visited, I have seen this development. Ogun, my state; Oyo; Nasarawa; Enugu; Ebonyi; Kaduna; Kano; Kebbi; Katsina; and others have witnessed development projects spring up, thanks to President Tinubu’s re-engineering of the federation’s finances and increased allocation to the states,” Onanuga said.

He noted that states which, as of May 2023, struggled to pay workers’ salaries and pension obligations are now meeting these responsibilities with ease and simultaneously embarking on ambitious infrastructure projects, including roads, schools, and health facilities.

According to the presidential spokesman, ordinary Nigerians are increasingly acknowledging these positive changes. During recent tours of the Southeast and Northwest, he said, citizens openly praised the President for the improved capacity of their state governments to deliver development.

Onanuga attributed the turnaround largely to the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market  difficult but necessary decisions that freed up resources previously consumed by unsustainable subsidies and market distortions.

He further highlighted major federal infrastructure initiatives, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, describing them as among the most ambitious road projects since independence.

“The man who has taken the bullets to make Nigeria survive a fiscal disaster is even more willing to take additional bullets to make all Nigerians safe,” Onanuga added.

The Special Adviser maintained that the international community is also recognising Nigeria’s progress, placing the country on an irreversible path of growth and development under the current administration.

Onanuga urged critics to acknowledge the measurable improvements rather than remain fixated on the temporary pains of reform, insisting that the works of the Tinubu administration are already transforming lives across the federation.
