In a powerful reaffirmation of principle over ambition, an associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the seasoned statesman is not desperate to occupy Nigeria’s highest office, but rather remains deeply committed to the pursuit of a better, more prosperous nation.
Speaking on behalf of Atiku at an affirmation ceremony held in Lagos for new defectors to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Professor Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo, emphasized that Atiku’s political journey is driven by a vision for national transformation—not personal gain.
“Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. So, it’s not about him being the president. It’s about having a better government, a good government, that will be able to deliver for Nigerians,” Olateju stated.
The event marked a significant moment in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, as prominent figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) formally joined the ADC, signaling a shift toward coalition-building and reform-driven politics.
Olateju further clarified that the ADC is not merely a political party but a movement—one that seeks to reposition Nigeria through inclusive leadership and grassroots mobilization. He stressed that Atiku’s support for the ADC is rooted in a desire to see Nigeria thrive, regardless of who leads the charge.
“It’s not about Atiku must be president at all costs. The must there is for him to see Nigeria deliver as wished by all,” he added.
As Nigeria grapples with economic challenges, including inflation and the removal of fuel subsidies, the ADC coalition aims to offer a credible alternative focused on competent governance and national unity. The party’s presidential flagbearer for 2027, Olateju noted, will be chosen through a transparent and democratic process.
“Whoever picks the ticket shall be the representative of the Nigerian people and will represent the collective voice and aspiration of Nigeria,” he affirmed.
The ceremony was attended by high-profile defectors including Dr. Abimbola Ogunkelu, Chief Muritala Ashorobi, Retired Capt. Tunji Shelle, and Mr. Tai Benedict, among others. They were warmly received by ADC national leaders such as Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Kolawole Ogunwale, and Mr. George Ashiru.
