Hundreds of students from tertiary institutions across Oyo State took to the streets today in a peaceful protest, voicing strong support for the Dangote Refinery and its impact on Nigeria’s energy independence and youth employment.

The rally, which began at the University of Ibadan gate and moved through major city routes, was organized by a coalition of student unions and youth advocacy groups. Participants carried placards with messages such as “Support Local Industry,” “Dangote Refinery, Our Future,” and “Energy Security is Youth Security.”

“We are here to show solidarity with a project that represents hope for our generation,” said Adeola Adebayo, a student leader. “The Dangote Refinery is not just about oil—it’s about jobs, innovation, and national pride.”

The Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos State, is Africa’s largest oil refinery and has been a focal point of national discourse since its commissioning. Today’s rally in Oyo adds a new dimension to public engagement, highlighting the refinery’s symbolic value among Nigeria’s youth.
