The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reiterated that political activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, remains on the police wanted list. This declaration follows recent unrest linked to protests in the state and heightened security operations across Lagos.
Speaking during a “Show of Force” exercise on the Third Mainland Bridge, CP Jimoh emphasized that Sowore is being sought for allegedly attempting to incite public disorder and obstruct traffic during a protest related to the demolition of informal settlements in Oworonshoki.
“Sowore is known for his antics. He is ignorant of the law and arrogant. I have declared him wanted,” CP Jimoh stated. “Anywhere he is seen—whether in a hotel, in transit, on the ground, or even at the airport—he should be apprehended and prosecuted.”
The police commissioner noted that intelligence reports suggest further attempts to disrupt public peace, prompting the deployment of additional security personnel across key areas of the city. The ongoing operations, he said, are aimed at restoring public confidence and preventing a recurrence of the September 8 protests.
In response, Sowore has filed a ₦500 million lawsuit against the Lagos State Police Command, the Inspector-General of Police, and CP Jimoh, alleging that the declaration violated his constitutional rights and was made without due legal process.
Despite the legal challenge, CP Jimoh affirmed that the police remain committed to enforcing the law and ensuring public safety.
“My declaration that Sowore is wanted is still in force,” he said during a live interview on Channels Television.
The situation continues to draw national attention, with civil society groups and legal experts weighing in on the implications for civil liberties and the rule of law.
