Renowned Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus or Mr. Funny, has shared a heartfelt story about the early challenges he faced in pursuing his passion for comedy. In a recent interview, Sabinus revealed how his father's strong desire for him to become a lawyer initially led to opposition against his chosen path in entertainment.

Sabinus, who rose to fame through his hilarious skits and relatable content, explained that his father had envisioned a legal career for him from the start. Despite multiple attempts to secure admission into law school, Sabinus was unable to do so and instead enrolled in Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). It was during his university years that he discovered his talent for comedy, beginning to create and share skits that would later catapult him to stardom.

However Sabinus kept his budding comedy career a secret from his father throughout his time at university. The truth came to light approximately a year after graduation when his father spotted him on posters promoting comedy shows.

This discovery sparked a strong reaction, with his father expressing fury and dismissing comedy as a "stupid business." Sabinus recounted that his father even regretted funding his education upon learning of his shift to skit-making.

Reflecting on the experience, Sabinus shared, "At first, my dad never wanted me to be what I am today, he wanted me to be a lawyer. I tried my best but couldn’t secure admission. So, I settled for Linguistics and Communication Studies at Uniport." He added that his father's acceptance came only after witnessing the success and financial rewards of his comedy endeavors.

This revelation highlights the common struggles many creatives face in balancing family expectations with personal passions. Sabinus' story serves as an inspiration to aspiring entertainers, demonstrating that perseverance can lead to familial support and professional triumph.

Sabinus continues to entertain millions through his unique brand of humor, appearing in skits, shows and collaborations that resonate with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
