In a special Christmas message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly criticized the ongoing violence and religious persecution against Christians in Nigeria. He called for an immediate stop to these attacks, describing them as unacceptable in today's world.

"The persecution of Christians or members of any religion cannot and must not be tolerated," said Prime Minister Netanyahu. "And the displacement and attacks against Christians in Nigeria, that too must end. And it must end now." He also pointed out "Muslim militant displacement and attacks against Christians in Nigeria must end now," stressing that there should be zero tolerance for such religious violence.

The Prime Minister shared these words in a video message posted on social media, where he wished Christians around the world a Merry Christmas. He highlighted Israel's role as a safe place for Christians in the Middle East, where they can practice their faith freely without fear. In contrast, he noted the decline of Christian communities in other areas due to discrimination and oppression.

This statement comes amid reports of repeated attacks on Christians in Nigeria, including by militant groups. Netanyahu's comments follow similar concerns raised by other world leaders, like U.S. President Donald Trump, who has also urged Nigeria to protect its religious minorities.

Nigerian officials have pushed back against such claims, calling them "malicious lies" and saying the violence is due to criminality, ethnic disputes, and other issues, not just religious persecution. Faith leaders in Nigeria have rejected the idea of a "foreign narrative" on Christian persecution, pointing out that the country's problems, like those from Boko Haram, are more complex.

Prime Minister Netanyahu ended his message by affirming Israel's support for religious freedom everywhere. "Israel stands with you," he said to Christians facing threats.
