British heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has made a remarkable return to training just 19 days after surviving a fatal car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close team members.

The 36-year-old athlete, known for his resilience both in and out of the ring, shared footage of his workout sessions on social media, signaling his determination to recover physically and mentally.

The incident occurred on December 29, 2025, near Lagos, when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his companions collided with a stationary truck during an overtaking maneuver.

Joshua sustained minor injuries and was briefly hospitalized, while his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and trainer, Latif "Latz" Ayodele, tragically lost their lives. Nigerian authorities have since charged the driver with dangerous driving causing death, driving without a valid license, and other related offenses.

In a series of Snapchat videos, Joshua showcased his light training regimen, including hitting pads and riding a stationary bike. He captioned one clip with "mental strength therapy,"

highlighting the emotional toll of the accident and his approach to healing. This swift comeback underscores Joshua's unyielding spirit, even as he mourns the loss of his friends and team members.

"Anthony is a fighter through and through," said Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter at Matchroom Boxing. "This tragedy has been devastating, but seeing him back in the gym so soon shows his incredible mental fortitude. We're supporting him every step of the way as he focuses on recovery and future plans."

Joshua, a two-time former unified world heavyweight champion, had been in Nigeria visiting family and engaging in community activities when the crash happened.

He returned to the UK shortly after to attend funeral services for Ghami and Ayodele. Fans and the boxing community have rallied around him, with messages of support flooding social media.

As Joshua continues his rehabilitation, speculation grows about his next fight. His last bout was a dominant victory late in 2025, and insiders suggest he aims to return to the ring stronger than ever. Updates on his progress will be shared via his official channels.
