Vice President Kashim Shettima has highlighted the transformative role of the Dangote Refinery in positioning Nigeria as a net exporter of refined fuel, emphasizing homegrown solutions to Africa's economic challenges during his address at the 2026 World Economic Forum.

Citing the Dangote Refinery as a prime example, Shettima noted that Nigeria is on the verge of shifting from decades as a net importer to becoming a major exporter of refined fuel products.

"Africa cannot rise on applause alone. We rise when we build. After decades as a net importer of value, Nigeria is on the verge of becoming a net exporter of refined fuel, powered by Africa’s largest refinery in Lagos, Nigeria: the Dangote Refinery," Shettima stated.

The 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest single-train facility, has begun producing diesel, naphtha, jet fuel, and petrol, significantly reducing Nigeria's reliance on imported petroleum products.

This development is expected to boost domestic supply, stabilize fuel prices, and generate export revenues, fostering economic growth and energy independence for the nation.

Shettima urged African nations to prioritize local production over import dependency and shift from aid to investment, positioning the refinery as a model for continental progress.

The Vice President's remarks underscore the government's commitment to supporting indigenous industries and addressing longstanding economic vulnerabilities.
