The United Nations warns that Sudan's devastating civil war has now surpassed 1,000 days. The conflict erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). It has spiraled into the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives. Over 15 million individuals face displacement, both inside Sudan and in neighboring countries. Famine-level hunger threatens more than 33 million people, half of whom are children. Widespread violations of international law continue, including attacks on civilians and blocked humanitarian access.

Recent violence in regions like North Darfur and Kordofan has intensified the suffering. Drone strikes and clashes displace thousands more weekly. The RSF now controls roughly half of Sudan, including Darfur.

"The war in Sudan enters a deadlier phase with each passing day," said UN Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari. "We must protect civilians, ensure humanitarian access, and push for an immediate cessation of hostilities."

Bob Kitchen, IRC’s Vice President of Emergencies, added, "One thousand days of war is one thousand days of failure." UNICEF echoes this sentiment, stating that children have endured "1,000 days of agony."

The United Nations calls on all parties to halt fighting and allow aid delivery. Global donors must increase funding to avert further catastrophe. Sudan cannot endure another day of this needless suffering.
