The Office of the First Lady of Taraba State, Her Excellency Agyin Kefas, today issued a strong condemnation of the brutal assault on a minor in Donga Local Government Area. This heinous act underscores the urgent need to protect vulnerable individuals in our communities.
The incident involved a 17-year-old girl, Iwasen Terhemba, who suffered severe facial injuries after being attacked with a razor blade. Reports indicate that the attacker, Ramati Abbas, a married woman from the same area, allegedly acted out of suspicion regarding her husband's interest in the teenager.
The victim, under the care of her guardian Jemila Savalla Wanga, was assaulted in her home, highlighting a grave violation of personal safety and human rights.
"No child or young person should ever endure such barbaric treatment," stated Her Excellency Agyin Kefas. "This attack is not only unacceptable but a direct affront to the values of justice and dignity we uphold in Taraba State." She emphasized that violence, intimidation, or any attempts to obstruct justice will face zero tolerance.
In response, the First Lady has urged law enforcement agencies and child protection bodies to conduct a thorough investigation.
Authorities must ensure the victim's immediate safety, provide necessary medical and psychological support, and hold all perpetrators accountable under the law. The suspect has already been remanded, and further actions are underway to address any related intimidation.
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has also directed security forces to apprehend individuals attempting to harass the victim or her family, reinforcing the state's commitment to swift justice.
The Taraba State Government remains dedicated to safeguarding women and children, promoting gender equality, and eradicating all forms of abuse. This administration will continue to implement policies that foster a safe environment for all residents.
