His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, today commissioned a modern 5-kilometre network of internal roads at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, in Ovia South-West Local Government Area.

The project, fully funded and executed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), marks a significant milestone in enhancing infrastructure, campus mobility, and the overall learning environment at the institution.

The newly unveiled road network, approximately 5km (with some reports specifying 4.595km of paved internal roads), provides all-weather access across the polytechnic campus. It addresses long-standing challenges of poor road conditions that have hindered movement for students, staff, and visitors since the institution's establishment over 23 years ago.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Okpebholo described the project as a strategic investment in education and regional development. “I am honoured to witness this network of internal roads constructed by the Niger Delta Development Commission here at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen,” he said.

The Governor commended the NDDC for its impactful intervention and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through collaborative efforts with federal agencies.

The roads are expected to improve campus safety, facilitate easier transportation, boost academic activities, and renew hope among students and the host community. The commissioning was attended by dignitaries, including the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, deputy governor, and other stakeholders.

This development forms part of broader efforts by the Okpebholo administration to revitalize tertiary institutions in Edo State, including recent steps to address staff welfare issues at the polytechnic.

The Edo State Government and the NDDC remain dedicated to delivering people-oriented projects that drive sustainable growth and improve quality of life across the state.
