aimed at flushing out terrorists and criminals from forested and border areas
in Kwara and Niger States. The update was delivered by Major General Michael
Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, during a briefing at the Defence
Headquarters in Abuja on February 27, 2026.
The operation was formally inaugurated by the Chief
of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, underscoring the military's

February 18, 2026, along the Kainji-Kwimo road in Magama Local Government Area
of Niger State, where intelligence-driven assaults neutralized scores of
terrorists, rescued several hostages, and led to the recovery of substantial
arms and ammunition. These actions have disrupted enemy logistics and morale,
preventing further threats to civilian populations.
By prioritizing rapid response mechanisms and
leveraging community-sourced intelligence, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD has
effectively curtailed ambushes, abductions, and other criminal activities,
fostering safer travel and commercial corridors. Non-kinetic initiatives,
