Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has strongly condemned the recent barbaric attack on the Ratatis community in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, and has directed security agencies to intensify operations to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, resulted in the tragic loss of at least nine to ten innocent lives. The victims laid to rest in a somber mass burial in the community on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 were mourned by grieving families, community leaders, religious figures, and residents who gathered to pay their last respects amid calls for justice and enhanced security.
In a statement issued through the Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Joyce Ramnap, Governor Mutfwang described the killings as "barbaric and senseless," expressing deep shock and profound sadness on behalf of the Plateau State Government.
He noted that the incident represents a regrettable setback to the relative peace achieved through ongoing dialogue, reconciliation, and community engagement initiatives across the state.
"The Plateau State Government stands in solidarity with the bereaved families and the people of Barkin Ladi," the Governor said. "These acts of violence against innocent citizens will not be tolerated." He stated.
"I have directed all relevant security agencies to double their efforts, intensify operations, and ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are swiftly apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law." He concluded.
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that no effort will be spared to restore lasting peace and prevent future occurrences. He urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security forces, and continue supporting peace-building processes.
The Governor also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the repose of the souls of the departed and strength for those left behind.
