Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has finalized a landmark offtake agreement with 12 major petroleum marketing companies, paving the way for the supply and distribution of between 60 million and 65 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, daily to the domestic market.

This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward fuel self-sufficiency.

The agreement establishes a structured framework for distributing high-quality, locally refined petrol nationwide through established marketing firms and retail networks with extensive storage, transportation, and station infrastructure.

The initiative is supported by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and aligns with efforts to stabilize fuel supply, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance energy security.

President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, commented on the development: “We have agreed an offtake framework to supply up to 65 million litres daily for the domestic market. Any surplus, estimated at between 15 and 20 million litres per day, will be available for export, further positioning Nigeria as a net exporter of refined petroleum products."

"This agreement underscores our commitment to meeting national demand reliably and competitively while contributing to economic growth and foreign exchange conservation.”

The Dangote Refinery, operating at its full nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is now capable of fully addressing Nigeria’s petrol requirements.

By channeling supply through major marketers, the arrangement ensures efficient, widespread availability and helps mitigate supply disruptions while fostering a more competitive downstream sector.

This deal builds on the refinery’s recent operational achievements, including sustained increases in domestic supply and optimizations that have positioned it as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy landscape.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in Lagos, Nigeria, is the largest single-train refinery in the world with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

It produces a range of refined products, including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, and petrochemicals, aimed at serving domestic needs and regional export markets. The refinery represents a transformative investment in Nigeria’s industrial and energy sectors.
