The Nigerian Army on Thursday formally retired 18 senior officers of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) after 35 years of distinguished service to the nation. The officers were honoured at a ceremonial pulling-out parade held in Benin City, Edo State, marking the conclusion of a three-day corps conference.
The retiring officers comprise four Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals. Speaking at the event, the Corps Commander, NACST, Major General Danjuma Shagaya, described the ceremony as both a celebration and recognition of the officers' dedication and contributions to national service. He noted that the pulling-out parade remains a longstanding military tradition designed to honour years of sacrifice and commitment.
Shagaya commended the leadership of the Nigerian Army for acknowledging the contributions of the retired officers, highlighting their role in sustaining operations across various theatres.
In his remarks on behalf of the retirees, Major General Olaniyi Dare said the officers had served with distinction in multiple capacities, ensuring effective logistics support for troops engaged in training, peacekeeping, and internal security operations both within and outside Nigeria.
Dare emphasised the critical role of the Corps of Supply and Transport in maintaining the operational effectiveness of the Army by providing timely and reliable logistics to deployed personnel. He added that although the officers were exiting active service, they remained committed to upholding the values of the Nigerian Army and would continue to contribute their expertise when required.
The ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate the end of active service and reflect on decades of dedication to national defence.
