In a significant political development in Kaduna State, Rt. Hon. Isa Ashiru Kudan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections, has formally resigned his membership of the PDP and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ashiru, a seasoned politician, former federal lawmaker, and prominent businessman, announced his decision after wide consultations with political associates, family, and supporters. He cited the need for a new platform to better serve the people of Kaduna State and contribute meaningfully to the opposition’s efforts ahead of future elections.
Confirming the move, Ashiru stated that he has pitched his political tent with the ADC, describing it as a party with strong potential to drive genuine change and good governance in the state. His defection comes amid ongoing realignments within the opposition in Kaduna and at the national level.
A two-time governorship candidate, Ashiru has remained a central figure in Kaduna politics for over a decade. His entry into the ADC is expected to bolster the party’s structure and grassroots mobilization in the state, particularly as political activities intensify towards the 2027 general elections.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) welcomed the development, describing Ashiru’s decision as a boost to the growing coalition of progressive and opposition forces committed to offering credible alternatives to the people of Kaduna State.
Ashiru is expected to formally declare his membership and address supporters in the coming days as he integrates fully into the ADC.
