Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and declared his intention to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The announcement comes just one day after Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso formally resigned from the NNPP with immediate effect, citing the need for strategic realignment in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his resignation statement, Mustapha Kwankwaso expressed gratitude for his time in the NNPP and reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of good governance, youth development, and national progress championed by the Kwankwasiyya movement. He stated that the move to the ADC aligns with broader efforts to build a stronger opposition coalition capable of delivering meaningful change to Nigeria.

This development reflects the ongoing political realignments within the Kwankwasiyya movement following Senator Kwankwaso’s exit from the NNPP. The Kwankwasiyya Movement had earlier directed its members to join the ADC as part of a strategic shift aimed at consolidating opposition forces.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is scheduled to formally register with the ADC today, Monday, March 30, 2026, at a ceremony in Kano, where he is expected to be received by top ADC leaders, including National Chairman Senator David Mark and National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Mustapha Kwankwaso’s decision further signals the movement’s collective resolve to pursue a new political platform that offers greater opportunities to advance the vision of a better Nigeria.

The family and the wider Kwankwasiyya network remain focused on issues of education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and accountable leadership, principles that have defined their political journey.
