Renowned Islamic cleric Sheikh Sulaiman Onikijipa has called on Nigeria's political leaders to exercise prudence and transparency in managing the nation's abundant resources, emphasizing that wise stewardship is essential for sustainable development and the well-being of all citizens.

Delivering his Eid-el-Fitr sermon in Lagos on Friday, Sheikh Onikijipa urged those in positions of authority to prioritize people-centered policies, prudent spending, and equitable distribution of revenues across all sectors.

He stressed that responsible resource management aligns with Islamic teachings as outlined in the Holy Quran and is critical to achieving national progress amid ongoing economic challenges.

“Use Nigeria’s resources, including revenues, judiciously. Spend it wisely and ensure it gets to all sectors and the people who should benefit from it,” the cleric declared.

He highlighted the need for leaders to demonstrate accountability, avoid wastefulness, and focus on initiatives that uplift the populace rather than serve narrow interests.

Sheikh Onikijipa's message comes at a time when Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardships, inflation, and calls for better governance. His appeal underscores the moral and spiritual imperative for transparent leadership, urging politicians to view public resources as a sacred trust to be used for collective advancement.

The cleric's statement has resonated widely, reinforcing similar calls from religious and community leaders during the Eid festivities for unity, compassion, and ethical governance.

Sheikh Sulaiman Onikijipa is a respected Islamic scholar known for his advocacy on social justice, moral leadership, and community welfare issues.
