The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Youth Council has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to urgently intervene and address the growing internal challenges facing the party ahead of future political engagements.
In a strongly worded statement issued today, the youth wing of the ADC expressed deep concern over persistent leadership tussles, factional divisions, and organizational weaknesses that are currently undermining the party's cohesion and public credibility.
The ADC Youth Council emphasized that Atiku Abubakar, as a prominent leader and key stakeholder within the opposition political space, possesses the experience, stature, and national reach needed to help stabilize the party and reposition it as a formidable force in Nigerian politics.
“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has consistently demonstrated commitment to democratic values and nation-building. We believe his timely intervention is critical at this moment to resolve the lingering issues threatening the unity and progress of our great party,” said Comrade Balarabe Rufai National Coordinator of the ADC Youth Council.
The youth council highlighted several pressing challenges, including unclear party structures at the state and local government levels, conflicting claims over leadership positions, and the need for a more inclusive decision-making process that gives young members a stronger voice.
They urged Atiku to convene a stakeholders’ meeting that would bring together all factions, elders, and youth representatives to chart a new course for the ADC, rebuild trust among members, and develop a clear strategy for effective opposition politics in Nigeria.
The statement further noted that resolving these internal challenges is essential not only for the survival of the ADC but also for strengthening Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and providing viable alternatives to the ruling party.
The ADC Youth Council reaffirmed its commitment to the ideals of the African Democratic Congress and pledged to mobilize young Nigerians across the country in support of a united, vibrant, and issue-based party that addresses the aspirations of the youth and the masses.
The group concluded by appealing to all ADC members to prioritize the interest of the party above personal ambitions and work collectively towards genuine reconciliation and renewal.
