The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, arrived in Dakar today for a high-level working visit aimed at strengthening collaboration with Senegalese football authorities and reinforcing unity across African football.
The visit comes nearly one month after CAF’s Appeals Board issued a landmark ruling on March 17, 2026, overturning Senegal’s 1-0 extra-time victory over host nation Morocco in the AFCON 2025 final.
The decision, based on tournament regulations concerning Senegal’s temporary walk-off during the match, resulted in the title being awarded to Morocco by a 3-0 forfeit. Senegal’s Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) has since lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Dr. Motsepe is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Senegalese Head of State, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and FSF President Mr. Abdoulaye Fall. Discussions will focus on advancing football development initiatives, infrastructure projects, youth programmes, and regional competitions, while addressing the recent events in a spirit of constructive dialogue.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Dr. Motsepe stated: “African football thrives when we work together. This visit to Senegal and the planned follow-up to Morocco is about unity, respect for our regulations, and building a stronger future for the game we all love. CAF remains committed to fairness, transparency, and the continuous growth of football across our continent.”
The CAF delegation, which includes Acting Secretary-General Samson Adamu, will also undertake a symbolic visit to Gorée Island as part of the programme.
CAF reiterates its commitment to the highest standards of governance and appeals to all member associations to support the development of the sport while respecting due process.
