Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, on Monday arrived at the Kaduna State High Court for the continuation of his trial instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai, who is facing charges including abuse of office, fraud, and related allegations alongside one Amadu Sule, maintained a composed demeanor as he entered the court premises under tight security.

Before proceeding into the courtroom, the former governor was captured on video briefly engaging with a close associate on the forthcoming African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Convention. In the exchange, El-Rufai inquired, “So tomorrow is our convention, right?” to which the associate replied affirmatively, “God willing.”

The brief interaction underscored El-Rufai’s continued active interest in the affairs of the ADC, even as he navigates significant legal proceedings. The party’s National Convention is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

El-Rufai also faces a separate 10-count charge at the Federal High Court in Kaduna bordering on alleged abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud. A ruling on his bail application in that matter has been fixed for April 14 the same day as the ADC convention.

Supporters and party members have expressed confidence in the judicial process while reiterating calls for fairness and due process. The Kaduna State chapter of the ADC has in recent weeks raised concerns over what it described as alleged political persecution and harassment of opposition figures, including El-Rufai.

The former governor remains a prominent voice in Nigerian politics and a key figure within the ADC.
