Former presidential aspirant and seasoned economist, Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The move, announced today, comes amid growing national concerns over worsening insecurity, rising cost of living, and what he described as a shrinking democratic space in Nigeria. Hayatu-Deen, who contested the PDP presidential primaries in 2022, stated that the expectations of Nigerians for improved governance and economic stability have not been met in recent years.
In his statement, Hayatu-Deen declared: “This is why I have taken the decision to join the ADC, which I know is the vehicle for change.
Every day, I hear from people across Nigeria that they want a government that is focused on fixing the problems and delivering a safer and more prosperous future for their families.”
A prominent banker and former Managing Director of FSB International Bank, Hayatu-Deen brings decades of experience in finance, public policy, and economic reform. He has served in various high-level roles, including as Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, member of the Presidential Advisory Council, and participant in national economic initiatives. He was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) for his contributions to the nation.
Hayatu-Deen pledged to embark on a relentless nationwide campaign to help the ADC achieve victory in the 2027 general elections, positioning the party as a credible alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
The defection adds to the shifting political landscape, with the PDP facing internal crises that have led several leaders to exit the party.
