Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has thrown his full weight behind the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) following a precision airstrike conducted by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai in the Jilli area of Gubio Local Government Area on April 11, 2026.

In a strongly worded statement, Governor Zulum clarified that the Jilli Market, a border community between Borno and Yobe states, was officially closed by the Borno State Government five years ago due to its alleged use as a notorious hub for insurgents and their logistics suppliers.

“I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Jilli Market,” the Governor stated. “Let me state categorically that the Borno State Government closed Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago. The state government works closely with security agencies before reopening any markets or resettling communities affected by insurgency.”

Governor Zulum warned residents against aiding Boko Haram insurgents and their collaborators, emphasizing that anyone found in the closed market area amid terrorist activities would be considered part of the insurgent network.

The airstrike, described by the military as a targeted operation based on credible intelligence and surveillance, followed reports of terrorist activities in the area, including a recent attack on troops in Benisheik. Military sources maintained that the strike neutralized several terrorists and disrupted logistics support in what they termed a terrorist gathering point.

The Governor noted that he is in close consultation with the Yobe State Government and the military hierarchy on the matter, while commending the armed forces for their sustained efforts in the fight against insurgency in the North East.

“Anybody found in such closed areas is either a logistics supplier, trader with insurgents, or the terrorists themselves,” the statement added, underscoring the need for community cooperation with security forces.

This development comes amid ongoing counter-insurgency operations under Operation Hadin Kai, aimed at restoring peace and normalcy to Borno State and the wider region.

Governor Zulum reiterated the Borno State Government’s commitment to supporting the military and providing all necessary assistance, including intelligence, to end the scourge of terrorism.
