In a continued effort to improve the welfare of public servants and cushion the effects of economic challenges, the Ogun State Government has approved a weekly day off for civil servants while maintaining the N10,000 monthly transport allowance.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun made the approval as part of deliberate measures to enhance work-life balance, boost productivity, and support workers amid rising living costs. The policy builds on earlier interventions, including the additional day off introduced in 2024 to address fuel price adjustments and related economic pressures.
Under the new arrangement, officers on Grade Levels 01-14 will enjoy two days off per week, while those on Grade Levels 15-17 will observe one day off weekly. This provides valuable rest and recovery time, enabling workers to return to their duties more refreshed and efficient.
The N10,000 monthly transport allowance, originally introduced as a palliative, will continue to be paid to all eligible civil servants and pensioners. The allowance is designed to offset high transportation costs and ensure workers can commute comfortably without undue financial strain.
Speaking on the development, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the state workforce, describing public servants as critical partners in the ongoing transformation of Ogun State.
“Our administration remains focused on creating a conducive environment for workers. By approving a structured weekly day off and sustaining the transport allowance, we are not only addressing immediate economic realities but also investing in the long-term well-being and productivity of our dedicated civil servants,” the Governor stated.
He urged workers to utilise the additional rest period responsibly and to continue delivering quality service to the people of Ogun State.
The Head of Service and relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to ensure smooth implementation of the policy, including necessary adjustments to work schedules while maintaining essential public services.
This initiative reflects the Ogun State Government’s people-centred approach to governance and its resolve to prioritise the welfare of workers as the state continues on its path of sustainable development.
