In a heartwarming display of integrity and goodwill, Amb. Abubakar Sadeeq Plaza, a prominent politician and businessman in Plateau State, has gifted Mrs. Sarah Luka, a petty trader, the sum of N500,000 for her exemplary honesty.
Mrs. Luka, who resides along Lamingo Road in Jos, discovered N1 million hidden inside goods she purchased at the Terminus Market. Rather than keeping the money, she promptly returned it to the owner, a Muslim trader named Abubakar Dola, from whom she had bought polythene bags worth just N6,000. She attributed her action to her deep fear of God, stating that her faith would not allow her to spend or claim what did not belong to her.
Moved by Mrs. Luka’s remarkable honesty especially in these challenging economic times Amb. Abubakar Sadeeq Plaza presented her with the N500,000 reward as a token of appreciation and encouragement for ethical conduct.
Speaking on the gesture, Amb. Abubakar Sadeeq Plaza commended Mrs. Luka for upholding the highest standards of integrity, describing her action as a shining example that can inspire trust and unity across Nigeria’s diverse communities.
“This kind of honesty is rare and deserves to be celebrated. Mrs. Luka has shown that good character transcends religion and background. In a society where many might be tempted otherwise, her decision to do the right thing restores faith in humanity,” he said.
The incident, which involved a Christian woman returning money to a Muslim trader, has been widely praised as a beacon of interfaith harmony in Plateau State.
Mrs. Sarah Luka expressed gratitude for the reward, reaffirming that her primary motivation was moral and religious conviction rather than expectation of any gain.
This story highlights the power of personal integrity and serves as a positive reminder that honesty still pays, even in unexpected ways.
