Arsenal took a significant step towards ending their 22-year wait for a Premier League title with a 1-0 win against West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute, firing home a deflected strike following excellent build-up play involving captain Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice. The victory sees Mikel Arteta’s side extend their lead at the top of the table to five points over second-placed Manchester City.

The match was a tense affair, with Arsenal showing resilience and character to break down a determined West Ham side fighting against relegation. Trossard’s goal came after a period of sustained pressure, rewarding the Gunners’ persistence in a fixture that tested their mental strength.

A late stoppage-time goal by Callum Wilson for the hosts was controversially disallowed by VAR following a foul on goalkeeper David Raya, ensuring the three points headed back to North London.

"This result demonstrates the spirit and determination within this squad," said manager Mikel Arteta. "We knew it would be a difficult away game against a side battling for survival. The players showed great focus and quality to secure the win. We are getting closer, but there is still work to do."

Arsenal now sit in a commanding position. They are guaranteed the title if they win their remaining two league matches against Burnley and Crystal Palace. The club is also on the cusp of an historic season, having already secured a place in the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30 in Budapest their first final since 2006.

The Gunners have been in exceptional form, combining domestic dominance with European success. Many are already drawing comparisons to the legendary "Invincibles" side, with club legend Thierry Henry suggesting this team could earn the moniker of the "Unforgettables" if they lift both the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

Arsenal extend their gratitude to the traveling supporters who created an incredible atmosphere at the London Stadium. The club remains fully focused on delivering success for its fans in what could become the greatest season in its 139-year history.
