Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, former Governor of Edo State and current Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, has asserted that Edo State recorded better security outcomes during his administration (2008–2016) compared to Anambra State under former Governor Peter Obi.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the Mic On Podcast, Senator Oshiomhole drew a direct comparison between the two states, highlighting his administration’s achievements in tackling insecurity while questioning Obi’s record in Anambra.

“As a governor then, my state was safer than Anambra under Obi,” Oshiomhole stated. He referenced the security challenges in Anambra, particularly the activities of groups like the Bakassi Boys, which he said escalated to a point where kidnapping became rampant — including incidents where “wife kidnapped husband, husband kidnapped wife.” He noted that it took the intervention of Obi’s successor, Governor Willie Obiano, to address the crisis through decisive actions such as demolishing properties linked to criminals.

The outspoken APC chieftain used the platform to critique opposition figures, including Peter Obi, for criticizing the current administration’s handling of national security without offering concrete, actionable solutions. He emphasized the need for courageous leadership and practical governance, arguing that inability to secure one’s state raises doubts about capacity to address nationwide challenges.

Senator Oshiomhole also addressed broader national issues, predicting strong performance for the ruling party in future elections and urging citizens to demand specific policy alternatives from political contenders rather than vague promises.

This statement comes amid ongoing national discourse on security and political positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections. Oshiomhole’s remarks underscore his belief in results-oriented leadership, drawing from his tenure where Edo State saw notable improvements in security and infrastructure development.
