Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has approved the sum of ₦1 million as financial support to every indigene of the state among the Nigerians recently repatriated from South Africa.

The gesture is part of efforts to facilitate the smooth reintegration of the returnees into society, providing them with immediate financial assistance to help rebuild their lives and settle back home.

The Governor’s action was commended by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and other stakeholders, who described it as a demonstration of compassionate leadership and commitment to the welfare of Imo citizens. Many of the returnees had faced challenges abroad and are now being supported through multi-agency collaboration involving the Federal Government, NEMA, and private sector partners.

Governor Uzodinma emphasized that the welfare of Imo people remains a top priority of his administration, urging other states to emulate the initiative in supporting their own repatriated citizens.

Speaking on the development, the Governor noted that no Imo indigene should feel abandoned, especially in times of need. The funds are expected to be disbursed promptly to the beneficiaries to aid their immediate needs such as transportation, accommodation, and starting small businesses or skills acquisition programmes.

This compassionate intervention aligns with the broader Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government and reinforces Imo State’s commitment to human capital development and citizen welfare.
