Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has publicly claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio harbors deep suspicion toward him, describing the situation as one where Akpabio sees him as “the devil.”
In a recent statement, Oshiomhole alleged that the Senate President is “paranoid about anything that has to do with me,” suggesting that if Akpabio had his way, he would have him locked out of the Senate.
“Everybody in the Senate knows that if Senator Akpabio had his way, he would lock me out of the Senate because he has misled himself into thinking that I am probably the devil he knows. There are many angels he doesn’t know,” Oshiomhole stated.
The remarks come amid ongoing tensions within the 10th Senate, including recent clashes over procedural matters, leadership rules, and oversight of key national institutions such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Oshiomhole hinted at dissatisfaction among some senators with the current leadership style and predicted changes in the Senate’s leadership arrangement ahead of future sessions.
Oshiomhole, a former Governor of Edo State and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized his fulfillment in public service while calling for courage and wisdom in addressing national issues.
This latest exchange highlights the undercurrents of political maneuvering and personal dynamics within Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber as the country navigates governance challenges and preparations for future political transitions.
