The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has rejected Governor Ademola Adeleke’s allegation linking a member of the State House of Assembly to the recent killing in the state, describing it as baseless, irresponsible, and a desperate attempt to divert attention from the worsening security situation under his watch.
In a statement issued by the APC State Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Lawal, the party urged the Governor to focus on governance and security rather than engaging in unsubstantiated accusations against opposition lawmakers.
“It is unfortunate that instead of providing leadership and ensuring the safety of Osun people, Governor Adeleke is busy making wild allegations without concrete evidence,” the statement read. “The APC condemns the unfortunate killing and commiserates with the family of the deceased. However, we will not allow the Governor to politicise this tragic incident or use it to witch-hunt honourable members of the House of Assembly.”
The party noted that security is a state responsibility and challenged Governor Adeleke to explain why insecurity has continued to rise in Osun State despite huge budgetary allocations to the security sector. The APC further demanded that the Governor allow security agencies to conduct a thorough, unbiased investigation into the incident without interference.
“Allegations against a lawmaker should not be made on the pages of newspapers or through media statements. If the Governor has any credible evidence, he should present it to the police for proper investigation,” the party added.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and urged all residents of Osun State to remain calm while security agencies work to bring the perpetrators to justice. The party also called on the Governor to prioritize the welfare and security of the people over political blame games.
