In a bold reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to educational excellence, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has pledged comprehensive support for the education of the state’s top performer in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The Governor announced that the state government will fully sponsor the academic journey of the outstanding student, covering tuition, accommodation, and other essential educational needs throughout their university program. This initiative underscores Abia State’s dedication to nurturing academic brilliance and building a skilled workforce for the future.

“We are intentional about education in Abia State,” Governor Otti stated. “By investing in our brightest young minds, we are securing the prosperity of our state and nation. This top scorer represents the potential that exists in every Abia child, and we will ensure they have every opportunity to excel.”

This pledge aligns with the Otti administration’s broader education reforms, which include allocating a significant portion of the state budget to the sector, massive teacher recruitment, infrastructure upgrades, and scholarship programs for high-achieving students. The Governor has previously rewarded first-class graduates and indigent students with financial support and opportunities, demonstrating a consistent focus on merit and access.

The announcement comes as Abia continues to record impressive improvements in educational outcomes, with increased enrollment in public schools and enhanced performance in national examinations. Governor Otti’s administration views academic toppers as role models who inspire peers and elevate the state’s profile.

Parents, educators, and stakeholders have welcomed the gesture, describing it as motivational for students preparing for future examinations.

The identity of the 2026 JAMB top scorer from Abia will be announced following official confirmation by JAMB. The student will be formally recognized and presented with the support package in a special ceremony.

Governor Otti continues to position education as a cornerstone of Abia’s development agenda, calling on all residents to prioritize learning and hard work.
