Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE, Africa’s largest oil refinery, today announced the successful completion of a landmark private placement that raised $2.5 billion, significantly exceeding initial targets amid overwhelming investor demand. The transaction underscores strong market confidence in the refinery’s operational achievements and ambitious growth plans.

An executive close to the transaction confirmed the raise and indicated that the company may proceed with a public listing as early as August, subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions. The private placement, which valued the company at approximately $39 billion pre-money, attracted commitments from a diverse group of institutional investors, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals both domestically and internationally.

“We are thrilled by the exceptional response from investors, which reflects their belief in Dangote Refinery’s transformative role in Nigeria’s energy sector and Africa’s industrial future,” said the executive. “This capital infusion will accelerate our expansion initiatives, including doubling refining capacity, while positioning us for a potential public offering that will broaden ownership and enhance transparency.”

The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, has already made significant strides since commencing operations. It has ramped up production of diesel, aviation fuel, naphtha, and premium motor spirit (petrol), substantially reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products and contributing to energy security across the region.

This private placement serves as a critical stepping stone toward a potential pan-African initial public offering (IPO), which industry observers anticipate could be one of the largest in African history. The company continues to engage with regulators, including Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission, to ensure full compliance.df6e7b
