Ladipo Johnson, spokesman for former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has confirmed that a leadership dispute within the OK Movement has drawn the displeasure of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Johnson made the disclosure during an interview on Arise Television, acknowledging that tensions had emerged between some members and the leadership of the OK Movement the campaign platform promoting a proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described the situation as a temporary distraction rather than a fundamental threat to the movement’s objectives.
“Yes, we have, may I call it a distraction at the moment. It is not such, in my own humble opinion, that would lead you to take unilateral actions that could possibly scuttle or bring bad blood within the support base of the person you purportedly want to become the president of the country,” Johnson stated.
The spokesman revealed that he and the Director-General of the movement had briefed Obi on the developments the previous night.
“I saw the presidential candidate last night along with the DG. He’s not happy about the whole situation,” he said.
Johnson urged members of the OK Movement to avoid actions capable of creating divisions among supporters and instead focus on expanding the structure of the movement nationwide. He expressed confidence that the disagreement would be resolved before the formal commencement of political campaigns.
“Any minor issues will be sorted out. We’re still strong and we’re focused, especially on both the presidential and vice-presidential candidates,” he added.
The OK Movement has been positioning itself as a key platform for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket under the NDC banner as opposition forces realign ahead of the 2027 elections.
