Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, as a hard-fought “war” against a formidable political coalition that included 17 governors, about 50 senators, and members of the House of Representatives.

Davido made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing journalists at his country home following Governor Adeleke’s victory in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

Congratulating the governor, the singer said: “Let me congratulate my governor for his re-election for the hard-fought battle. Let me not say battle but war, where you have 17 governors, 50 senators, House of Reps, I don’t know how many they were against one man and he came out victorious. God is good.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner after he polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

Davido attributed the victory primarily to the people of Osun State, whom he praised for standing firmly behind the governor and protecting their votes despite what he described as intimidation and other challenges.

“I can’t remember how many times I cried that day because the love was massive,” he said, reflecting on the emotional atmosphere on election day.

He further noted that Adeleke’s success should serve as an example to other political leaders across Nigeria, stressing that genuine service to the people attracts electoral support.

“My uncle should be an example to all other people out there. It shows all other governors out there that if you work for the people, the people will be with you and God,” Davido added.

The singer, who actively campaigned for his uncle, also expressed appreciation to Osun youths for their role in safeguarding the democratic process, stating that their conduct gave hope not only to the state but to the entire country about the possibility of free and fair elections.

With the election concluded, Davido indicated that his focus would now shift toward youth empowerment and sports development initiatives in Osun State.
