African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Salihu Moh. Lukman, has issued a strong warning to leading opposition figures, stating that their personal presidential ambitions risk handing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) an easy victory in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released in Abuja, Lukman specifically cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other opposition leaders against prioritising individual aspirations over collective efforts to unseat the APC.
“Lack of unity among the opposition was largely responsible for the electoral victory of APC. The same reality is manifesting itself again with the same two leading opposition personalities emerging as candidates against President Tinubu,” Lukman said.
He questioned the sincerity of opposition leaders who claim to want an end to APC rule yet remain divided.
“If truly their objective is about defeating APC and President Tinubu, why are they unable to recognise that once they are divided, it is as good as conceding electoral victory to APC and President Tinubu?” he asked.
Lukman expressed frustration with the current trajectory of the opposition, warning that repeating the fragmented approach of the 2023 elections would only produce the same outcome. He stressed that many Nigerians are growing disillusioned with opposition politicians who place personal political ambitions above the need to build a credible alternative.
The ADC chieftain called on Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi and others to prove their patriotic disposition by subordinating personal interests to a united front capable of challenging the ruling party effectively.
“Alh. Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and all the other opposition leaders must be challenged to prove their patriotic disposition,” Lukman emphasised.
He further declared his personal commitment to seeing the APC and President Tinubu defeated in 2027, while urging renewed negotiations among opposition stakeholders to forge a common platform before it is too late.
