Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has issued a strong warning that he will seek the intervention of United States President Donald Trump should any irregularities or compromise occur in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
Speaking during a live session with comedian and content creator Carter Efe, Davido declared: “I will involve Trump if anything goes wrong in the Osun election.” He further stated that he would publicly tag the US President, contact him directly, and, if necessary, take his concerns to the White House to demand transparency and a free and fair process.
Davido, who is the nephew of incumbent Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party. He currently serves as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council and has suspended aspects of his music career to focus on grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement across the state.
The singer emphasised the need for a credible electoral process, noting longstanding concerns about transparency in Nigerian elections. “Until there’s transparency, then I can go ahead with politics because nobody can beat me in any election. If there’s a free and fair election, let everybody come out to vote,” he said. He added that he would not remain silent if the process is undermined.
In related comments, Davido has also called on residents and political actors in Osun State to reject violence, intimidation, and any actions that could disrupt peace. In a recent statement, he urged: “Let us reject violence, intimidation, provocation, and every act capable of disrupting the peace of our communities. Your vote is your voice, and your choice deserves to be respected. LET THE OSUN PEOPLE DECIDE! FREE AND FAIR! VOTE NOT FIGHT!”
Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking a second term after winning the 2022 election. Davido’s high-profile involvement has drawn significant public and media attention to the poll, with stakeholders continuing to call for a peaceful, transparent, and credible democratic process.
