Newly re-elected Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja. The visit formed part of a series of consultations following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.

The meeting with Wike came hours after Adeleke held a closed-door session with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. During the engagement with the President, the governor presented his certificate of return and expressed gratitude for the conduct of the election, which he described as free and fair.

Adeleke arrived at the Presidential Villa around 5:20–5:25 p.m. dressed in traditional attire, accompanied by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and senior Osun State officials, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Adeleke said: “Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy. That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria.”

A photograph of Adeleke’s subsequent visit to Wike was shared on social media by the FCT Minister’s media aide, Lere Olayinka. The image shows the two leaders shaking hands while holding the governor’s certificate of return. Olayinka captioned the post: “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission after securing 511,067 votes.

The visits underscore ongoing political consultations in the federal capital in the aftermath of the Osun governorship poll.
