The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the just-concluded Osun State election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has stated that he respects the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the declaration of results.

In a statement issued on Tuesday via his official X account, Oyebamiji addressed supporters, party members and leaders of the APC in Osun State three days after the 15 August 2026 governorship poll.

INEC had declared the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, the winner with 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji of the APC polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in 11.

Oyebamiji said: “Although we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election.”

He expressed deep appreciation to APC supporters, members and leaders for their steadfastness, commitment, sacrifice and tireless efforts throughout the campaign. He also thanked voters who placed their trust in the prosperity agenda presented to the people of Osun, as well as volunteers who energised the campaign.

“The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive. We would continue to work for effective, inclusive and rapid development of our dear Osun,” he stated.

Oyebamiji urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful in the post-election period, to stay engaged in their communities, and to continue working for the collective good of the state.

He, however, raised concerns over what he described as a growing trend of hostility and violence against APC members and supporters. According to him, attacks recorded in the build-up to the election had “taken another dimension in the last 24 hours.”

He called on the State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene promptly and arrest the trend.

Oyebamiji concluded by reaffirming his pride in the campaign run by the APC and his gratitude for the confidence reposed in him by supporters.

“God bless you all. God bless Osun State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
