The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, has declared that politicians and poor leadership remain the primary cause of Nigeria’s challenges, while calling on Nigerians to pray for the political class.
Obi made the remarks on Sunday while speaking at Koinonia Global, the ministry of Apostle Joshua Selman. Addressing the congregation, the former Anambra State governor stressed that there is nothing inherently wrong with Nigeria itself. He argued that the country’s major problem lies in the quality of its leadership.
“I believe that people like you are the ones keeping our country. The only thing I can ask all of you who are gathered here, because I know he’s praying for the country, is that you remember us, the politicians, in your prayers,” Obi said.
“We are the problem of the country. There’s nothing wrong with Nigeria. What is wrong in Nigeria is the leadership, the politicians God created in this country,” he stated.
He appealed to the congregation to pray specifically for political leaders to develop the willingness to use public resources for the benefit of citizens and to stop the misuse of public funds.
“Let God touch our hearts to use public money for public good. Let God touch us to stop stealing. That is why people are suffering here,” he said.
Obi further urged Nigerians not to divide their prayers along political lines or based on perceived performance, but to intercede for all political leaders.
“Don’t say one is good, the other one is bad. All of us, remember all of us in your prayers, because the problem of the country can be solved. I assure you of that,” he added.
