Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and running mate to Presidential candidate Peter Obi, has called on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and concentrate on his traditional responsibilities as Wazirin Adamawa.
Kwankwaso made the remarks on Monday while receiving members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his residence in Abuja. Speaking in Hausa, he urged the group to convey his message directly to Atiku.
“Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health,” Kwankwaso said.
He further assured that should the NDC ticket of Peter Obi and himself succeed in the 2027 election, Atiku would be well looked after.
“If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him,” he added.
Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has contested the presidency on multiple occasions and has indicated that the 2027 election could be his final attempt at the highest office. He will turn 80 ahead of the polls.
Kwankwaso’s comments come amid intensifying political realignments and competition among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
