The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in a sweeping win across Rivers State, securing chairmanship positions in 20 out of 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the just-concluded local council elections. The results were officially announced by Dr. Michael Odey, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

This marks a significant political shift in the state, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—the ruling party—managed to retain only three LGAs: Port Harcourt, Obio Akpor, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni. Notably, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s home LGA, Opobo-Nkoro, was among those won by the APC.

Dr. Odey commended the peaceful conduct of the elections, stating that the process adhered strictly to electoral guidelines and reflected the will of the electorate. He emphasized the transparency and credibility of the vote-counting process, which saw enthusiastic participation from voters across the state.
