Anti-Party Allegations Not Enough to Punish Wike – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wishes to clarify its position regarding recent public discourse surrounding alleged anti-party activities by the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

While the party acknowledges the concerns raised by various stakeholders, it is imperative to reiterate that disciplinary action within the PDP is governed strictly by constitutional provisions and due process. As of today, no formal petition backed by verifiable evidence has been submitted against Mr. Wike to warrant any punitive measures.

Speaking in Abuja, the PDP Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, emphasized, “It is not enough to merely say someone has committed an offence. For any disciplinary action to be taken, a written petition must be filed, and the petitioner must be prepared to present evidence and testify before the party’s disciplinary committee.”

The party has constituted a disciplinary committee chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi, with Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) serving as secretary. However, no member has been sanctioned to date due to the absence of formal complaints.

Furthermore, the PDP recognizes that internal challenges are not unique to one individual. As noted by Hon. Fred Agbedi, Chairman of the South-South Caucus of the House of Representatives, “Anti-party issues go beyond Wike. Several members have acted in ways that contradict party principles, and the PDP is focused on rebuilding its structure rather than chasing individuals.”
