Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has deactivated her Instagram account in the wake of her younger sister Ruth Otabor’s untimely passing. The move comes just days after Ruth succumbed to injuries sustained in a devastating road accident involving a Dangote Group truck near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, was struck on August 13, 2025, by a heavy-duty vehicle, leading to multiple critical injuries and the amputation of one leg. Despite efforts to secure advanced medical treatment abroad, Ruth passed away on August 31, 2025, while on life support.
Phyna, who had been vocal on social media demanding justice and accountability from the Dangote Group, faced intense public scrutiny and backlash during her advocacy. In response to the emotional toll and mounting pressure, she has taken a step back from social media to grieve privately.
“People were bashing her… no one knows the confusion that comes with handling such a problem,” one fan commented in support of Phyna’s decision.
The Otabor family, represented by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, has requested privacy during this period of mourning. Funeral arrangements for Ruth Otabor will be communicated in due course.
